6 Voluta Aluminum Conductor Triplex Overhead Service Drop Cable

The 6 Voluta Aluminum Conductor Triplex Overhead Service Drop Cable is a high-quality, cost-effective solution for overhead power delivery from utility lines to residential or commercial weatherheads. It features three 6 AWG conductors: two insulated phase conductors of concentric or 7-strand 1350-H19 aluminum, covered in black cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or polyethylene (PE) insulation, twisted around a bare 6 AWG ACSR (6/1 strand) full-size neutral messenger for superior mechanical support and reduced sag. Rated 600V (phase-to-phase), with ampacity up to 85A (XLPE at 90°C) or 70A (PE at 75°C), this cable offers excellent weather resistance, corrosion protection, and lightweight design. Compliant with ASTM B-230, B-231, B-232, and ICEA S-76-474 standards, the 6 Voluta ensures safe, reliable performance in aerial service drop installations.

2. Ideal for 120/240V single-phase overhead service drops
3. XLP insulation for superior UV and weather resistance
4. Meets or exceeds ASTM and ICEA standards
5. Designed for long life and dependable outdoor performance

Application

Triplex aluminum wire has three conductors, with one of them being for the neutral path, and two electrodes. Used to supply power, usually from a pole-mounted transformer, to the user's service head, where connection to the service entrance cable is made. To be used at voltages of 600 volts phase-to-phase or less and at conductor temperatures not to exceed 75°C for polyethylene insulated conductors or 90°C for cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated conductors.

6 Voluta Mursia Aluminum Conductor Triplex Overhead Service Drop Cable Material Test

Raw Material Test

Raw Material Test for 6 Voluta Aluminum Conductor Triplex Overhead Service Drop Cable guarantees premium component quality before production begins. The structured process includes: Supplier Certificate Review: Verify aluminum (1350-H19) and ACSR wire certifications against ASTM B-230 and B-232 for composition, purity (>99.5% Al), and mechanical properties. Chemical & Mechanical Analysis: Sample aluminum rods for tensile strength (>175 MPa), elongation, and conductivity (≥61% IACS) using lab equipment; ACSR tested for zinc coating thickness and breaking strength. Dimensional Inspection: Measure rod/wire diameters, strand counts (7 for phases, 6/1 for neutral), and unit weights with precision micrometers and scales to match specs. Insulation Compound Testing: XLPE or PE pellets evaluated for density, melt index, tensile strength, elongation, and additive levels (carbon black/UV stabilizers) to ensure long-term weather resistance.

6 Voluta Aluminum Conductor Triplex Overhead Service Drop Cable Process inspection

Process inspection

Process Inspection for 6 Voluta Aluminum Conductor Triplex Overhead Service Drop Cable maintains precision and consistency during manufacturing. Key steps include: Wire Stranding: Monitor concentric or 7-strand formation of 6 AWG aluminum phases for uniform lay length, compactness, and no loose strands via online gauges. Insulation Extrusion: Apply black XLPE/PE insulation at controlled thickness (nom. 0.045–0.050 inches); inline diameter scanners and spark testers detect voids, eccentricity, or defects. Triplex Assembly: Twist two insulated phases around the bare 6 AWG ACSR neutral under precise tension to achieve balanced triplex configuration and optimal messenger support. Real-Time Monitoring: Continuous checks on conductor resistance, insulation integrity, twisting pitch, and overall diameter at multiple production stages.

6 Voluta Aluminum Conductor Triplex Overhead Service Drop Cable Finished Product

Finished Product

Finished Product Test verifies the 6 Voluta Aluminum Conductor Triplex Overhead Service Drop Cable meets all specifications before release. The comprehensive procedure includes: Visual & Dimensional Examination: Inspect full reel for surface defects, correct triplex lay, insulation uniformity, markings (size, voltage, standards), and measure overall diameter/weight per 1000 ft. Electrical Testing: Conductor DC resistance, insulation resistance (>1000 MΩ·km), and high-voltage withstand (AC 6kV/5 min) per ICEA standards to confirm dielectric strength. Mechanical Evaluation: Tensile strength, elongation, and breaking load tests on aluminum phases and ACSR neutral per ASTM B-230/B-232; flexibility and crush resistance assessed. Insulation Performance: XLPE/PE samples tested for tensile (>800 psi), elongation (>150%), heat aging, thermal shock, and UV/weather resistance.

Application

The 6 Voluta Aluminum Conductor Triplex Overhead Service Drop Cable suits low-ampacity overhead connections from utility poles to homes, small commercial buildings, rural secondary distribution, and weatherhead entries requiring durable, lightweight triplex cable for 600V single-phase power in exposed aerial environments.
